1. Keeping them lean and encouraging muscle development by exercising properly
2. Keeping them up to date on their parasite control..they are never too old to contract parasites
3. Annual to biannual veterinary visits where we can monitor joints, for heart murmurs, check dental health and screen for masses/cancer.
4. Senior Wellness Bloodwork to screen for preventable diseases
5. Monitoring your pet: watch for behavior changes, increase in drinking and urination, change in eating habits, change in mobility. Slight changes that you notice can give us clues in picking up disease earlier. You are your pet’s best advocate.

many pets start to get muscle tension and aches and pains just like we do as we age. Acupuncture and massage can be a great benefit to our older friends. We can show you techniques that you can do at home as well.

I usually start with the items listed above, but as pets get even older I find that there comes a time where we need to add in pharmaceuticals depending on the individual pet starting usually with Tramadol or Gabapentin for dogs and Gabapentin for cats.
